FastenerUSA B18 Series 18 gauge brad nails. What are 18 gauge brad nails used for you ask? 18 gauge brad nails are used in the finish carpentry and trim woodworking industry. 18 gauge nails can be used in projects that require or include moulding or decorative trim, furniture trim, window beading, baseboards, blind pinning of upholstered panels, scribe moulding, furniture, cabinet building, and picture frame assembly.
Two head types are available— B18 series with a standard head (a.k.a. medium head) and AY series with a slight head. The B18 series Standard Head is by far more popular and fits the vast majority of brad nailer brands in the market today. The AY series Slight Head brads are more of a specialty nail providing a smaller impression upon nail entry which means less putty and spackle work, Slight Head brads are compatible with only Slight Head brad nailers such as the infamous Senco LS2 and the more recent Senco SLP20XP. In our experience if you're unsure if your brad nailer accepts Slight Head then more than likely it does not.
The B18 series 18 gauge brad nails are available in three grades of corrosion resistance including Electro Galvanized, 304 Grade Stainless Steel, and 316 Grade Stainless Steel:
Electro Galvanized brad nails are best suited for interior trim applications and light exterior outdoor projects where corrosion is not a concern. Electro Galvanization provides a very thin layer of zinc coating with a measure of protection against the elements. Over time galvanized 18 gauge brad nails may corrode with prolonged exposure to the elements. Not recommended for ACQ Treated Lumber.
304 Grade Stainless Steel 18 gauge brad nails are best suited for typical outdoor applications to avoid nail corrosion and discoloration. ACQ-treated lumber, redwood, cedar, and acidic or oil-based exotic woods.
316 Grade Stainless Steel 18 gauge nails are best suited for tropical, seaside, salt water contact applications, or any project near large bodies of water. Recommended for all outdoor applications with ACQ-treated lumber, redwood, cedar, and acidic or oil-based exotic woods where Marine Grade fasteners are needed to avoid unsightly stains, streaks, corrosion and discoloration.
